2019 As We Are Art Awards

2019 As We Are Art Awards

Now in its 17th year, the annual As We Are Art Award is WA’s premier exhibition showcasing works of Western Australian artists who have an intellectual disability.

Visitors can expect to experience a range of inspiring artworks – including paintings, drawings, photography, prints, textiles and sculpture – and be immersed in an exhibition of unique vision, with artists taking inspiration from their family and friends, favourite football teams, Western Australian land and seascapes, as well as their distinctive personal interests such as zombies, mischievous characters and dooms-day apocalypses.

Entrants will compete for seven coveted art award categories, with the judges also awarding a number of high commendations for outstanding entries. Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Award. The As We Are Art Award provides a fantastic opportunity for Western Australian artists who have an intellectual disability to create, exhibit and sell their artwork. Each year a diversity of artworks from both emerging and established artists is received. For some this is the first time they have exhibited; for others, the award is a great platform to having solo exhibitions and advancing their professional visual arts career.

Founded in 2002, As We Are is an important community initiative in Western Australia that aims to bring joy and wellbeing to the lives of artists who have an intellectual disability and those who are part of the experience.

The 2019 As We Are Art Award is proudly sponsored by: Nulsen Group, My Place, City of Perth, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Tunbridge Gallery, Victoria Park Centre for the Arts, Kent Street Gallery, Melo Velo, Aurenda, Gallagher Bassett, Picasso Art + Framers, and Perth Expo.
